“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” — John 10:10 (NIV)

Thoughts / Insights / Experiences

Have you ever read this verse and thought… okay, but what does that actually look like?

Because if I’m being honest, there are days that don’t exactly feel “full.”
They feel busy.
They feel heavy.
They feel exhausting.

So what did Jesus mean when He said He came so we could have life to the full?

For a long time, I think I quietly assumed it meant a good life…
A smooth life…
A happy, everything-is-going-my-way kind of life.

But that doesn’t line up with reality.
And it doesn’t line up with the rest of Scripture either.

So it must mean something deeper.

“Life to the full” isn’t about what’s happening around us.
It’s about what’s happening within us.

It’s the kind of life that is rooted in Him.

It’s peace when circumstances don’t make sense.
It’s purpose when you’re not sure what the outcome will be.
It’s joy that shows up quietly… even in the middle of hard seasons.

It’s not a life free of struggle—
it’s a life that is full despite it.

And I think one of the most beautiful parts of this kind of “full” life…
is that it doesn’t just stay with us.

It spills over.

Into how we love people.
How we respond when things don’t go our way.
How we show up, even when we’re tired.

Because when our life is filled by Him,
we don’t have to chase fullness anywhere else.

Reflection Prompt

Where have you been looking for a “full” life lately—
in circumstances, outcomes, or control?

What might it look like to shift your focus back to being filled by Him instead?

Prayer Starter

God, I think I’ve been chasing “full” in all the wrong places.
Help me to understand what You meant when You said You came to give me life to the full.
Fill my heart with Your peace, Your purpose, and Your presence—regardless of what’s going on around me.
Teach me to live a life that overflows from You. Amen.

Action Step

Today, pause at least once and ask yourself:
“Am I trying to fill my life… or receive fullness from God?”

Take one small moment—whether it’s a short prayer, a deep breath, or reading a verse—and intentionally reconnect with Him.
