I’ve been spending a lot of time lately showing a house I’m selling. It’s fascinating to watch how differently people see the exact same house. A dozen people can walk through it — same walls, same stained carpet, same chipped paint, same overgrown flower beds. Some folks come in and immediately start listing off every flaw: “Oh, this carpet is needs to be replaced. That paint needs to be touched up. These weeds are out of control. This place just isn’t worth the price they’re asking.”
And then, a different couple walks through. They notice the same carpet, the same paint, the same weeds — but they see potential. They see the cozy living room, the backyard that could bloom with a little care, the memories they could make inside those walls. They get so excited that they’re willing to offer above asking. Same house — completely different perception of value.
And that got me thinking:
Isn’t that exactly how we see people? And sometimes, how we see ourselves?
We All Do Our Own Inspections
We meet people who seem so put together on the outside, but when we look closer, we might find out they’re unkind, dishonest, lazy, or carrying a past they don’t want to talk about. We mentally adjust our “offer price” for them: “Not worth my time. Not worth my energy. Not worth the investment.”
And we do it to ourselves, too. We notice the “stains” in our lives — the mistakes we keep repeating, the sins that won’t die, the habits that choke out our growth like weeds in a flower bed. Maybe it’s pride, or self-righteousness, or laziness, or being bad with money. And we tell ourselves: “I’m not worth much. Who would want this fixer-upper?”
But Then Jesus Walks Through
Here’s the beautiful, unbelievable truth: Jesus sees it all. He sees every stain, every weed, every chipped wall — and not for a second does He question your value. Not for a moment does He think you’re not worth it.
He doesn’t just pay a little over the asking price — He pays the ultimate price: His life, freely given to rescue you, redeem you, and make you His own forever. Your value isn’t determined by your flaws, your past, or what others think. It’s set by the One who bought you with His blood.
“You were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” — 1 Corinthians 6:20 (NKJV)
Your True Value: Priceless
If you’re feeling like an old, run-down house today — full of messes and half-finished projects — remember this: God looks at you through the filter of Jesus. He sees the potential, the beauty, the beloved child He made you to be. You are worth what He says you’re worth — and that is priceless.
So next time those critical thoughts pop up — when you start doing your own inspection and find every flaw — remind yourself of this: Jesus paid the highest price for me. I am worth what He says I am. And so is everyone else.
Let’s Pray
Lord, help me see myself — and others — the way You do. Thank You for paying the ultimate price for me. When I doubt my value, remind me that I am Yours, fully and forever. Amen.
